Bears quarterback Justin Fields’ status for Week 12 is in question after he injured his ribs in the third quarter of the Bears’ 16-13 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.

Fields left the game after taking a hard hit and was ruled out a short time later.

Fox Sports reported that Fields will undergo more tests to determine the severity of his rib injury, along with checking for any spleen injuries. Following the game, an Instagram post showed Fields saying that he only had bruised ribs, no broken ribs.

Head coach Matt Nagy said in his post game press conference that he didn’t know the extent of Fields’ injury at the time. He wasn’t sure if Fields had broken ribs, or if the injury was from an accumulation of getting hit there.

“I have no idea,” Nagy said, via ESPN. “I’ll have to find out. We’ll start getting into some of that later on.”

After Fields was evaluated in the medical tent on the sidelines, Fields made his way to the locker room and backup quarterback Andy Dalton began warming up.

CBS’s Tracy Wolfson reported mid-game that Fields was holding onto his ribs as he left the game, and that he was headed to the X-ray room to be evaluated. At the time, he was questionable to return to the game.

Dalton hadn’t participated in a game since Week 5, when he only stepped in for one completion against the Raiders. Fields was officially named the Bears starter in Week 3 after a lot of preseason drama in the Bears organization about who would take the starting position.

In Dalton’s first drive back on the field on Sunday, he threw a 60-yard pass to Darnell Mooney for a touchdown — the first touchdown for either team of the game.

Dalton finished the game 11-of-23 passing for 201 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead 49-yard TD pass to Marquise Goodwin with 1:41 remaining. But Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley — filling in for Lamar Jackson — led the game-winning drive that ended in a Devonta Freeman touchdown.

Nagy was noncommittal when asked whether Field or Dalton would be his Week 12 starter if both are healthy.
