A French-inspired mansion in Thousand Oaks, California, recently changed hands at $10 million, or twice as much as it sold for when it last changed hands in 2020 ($5 million). The 9,300-square-foot home hit the market in late April and when from pending to closed in about a month, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

The French-inspired home features a grand design, with dormer windows, a stone arch portico and elaborate roof reminiscent of a French castle. A soaring two-story foyer complete with a curved staircase, decorative balusters and sizable chandelier welcomes you into the four-bedroom main house. For extended-stay visitors, a guest apartment offers a separate entrance. Outdoor highlights include a pool and spa, covered gazebo and sprawling lawn. Located in the gated community of Lake Sherwood, the property overlooks the Sherwood Country Club.

Eric Burgund of Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate, one of the listing agents for the property, shared that the recent transaction was $9.5 million more than the most recent sale in the neighborhood, which was recorded in 2017 at $5.25 million.

The rebuild incorporated a more modern, open-plan layout, best displayed by the four-sided fireplace that centers the great room.
